Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau has said that Canada’s border with the United States will still be closed to travels that are non-essential until the U.S. tames coronavirus.
While talking to the hosts of “The Start” during a recent interview, Trudeau said: “We have committed to keeping Canadians safe and we keep extending the border closures because the United States is not in a place where we would feel comfortable reopening those borders.
“We see the cases in the United States and elsewhere around the world, and we need to continue to keep these border controls in place.”
The current border closure agreement between with the U.S. will expire on October 21 but it remains likely that it will be extended for the seventh time since the first agreement was reached in March.
Also, Trudeau warned Canadian snowbirds against flying to places like Florida, Arizona and California where the spread of the virus is not well controlled for warmer weather. He said: “Ultimately, if someone chooses to travel, we’re not going to keep them imprisoned in Canada.
“There’s freedom of movement in this country. Still, people have to recognize they’re putting themselves at risk, putting their loved ones at risk.”
