A solemn ceremony took place in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec, to commemorate the sad occasion of the tenth anniversary of the devastating rail disaster. At the event were Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Quebec Premier François Legault, as well as other dignitaries and community members. The tragedy happened in the early morning of July 6, 2013, when a runaway freight train, carrying crude oil, derailed, ignited near the town center and resulted in the loss of forty-seven lives.

The remembrance in Lac-Mégantic offered an opportunity to reflect and remember as the community converged to honour the memory of those who lost their lives tragically in the rail disaster. The ten-year milestone served as a touching reminder of the great impact the event had on the town and its residents.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Quebec Premier Legault’s presence underscored the occasion’s importance, highlighting the shared commitment to support the community and remember the victims.
