Canada’s top public health officer has said the best way to achieve a safe holiday season amid COVID-19 pandemic is to put a limit gatherings and only go for essential outings.
While urging Canadians, Dr Theresa Tam told Canadians to be highly cautious amid what she labeled as rapid epidemic growth across Canada.
Her advice came at a time when Quebec and Ontario, the provinces with the most cases and deaths to date, announced 1,154 and 1,534 new daily COVID-19 cases, respectively.
Also, Atlantic Canada is encountering a recent increase in number of cases and numbers continue to increase in Nunavut.
In Newfoundland and Labrador, Memorial University is putting on hold plans to call back some staff to work while Deer Lake has asked residents to stay home and closed down businesses.
New lockdown measures are being introduced in Toronto and neighbouring Peel Region.
