Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has won her maiden gold and made history by breaking the women’s 100m hurdles world record at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Tobi Amusan did the incredible by running 12.40 seconds in her opening performance to create a new African record and Nigeria’s fastest time in the competition’s history.
Amusan’s time is two hundredth of a second quicker than the 12.44 seconds Glory Alozie ran to clinch a silver medal in the event in Seville 23 years ago.
Before she won the final, Amusan came top of the list of qualifiers for the semifinals scheduled for the final day of the championships. Also, she was the only Nigerian female 100m hurdles runner to qualify for the penultimate round of the competition.
