As Ontario continues to fight against COVID-19 pandemic, some businesses have been given the go ahead to recommence operations as long as they adhere to the laid down public health measures.
The plan to reopen these businesses comes up as the number of discharged coronavirus cases in Ontario still outweighs confirmed active cases. However, top health officials in Ontario have said recently that based on recent trend, community spread transmission of coronavirus has been declining.
As from May 4, 2020, the following businesses have been given green light to reopen:
- Garden centres and nurseries that provide curbside pick-up and delivery alone.
2. Landscaping and lawn care.
3. Important construction projects like Shipping and logistics, telecommunications, broadband and digital infrastructure, any other business that supports ameliorated delivery of goods and services, colleges and universities, municipal projects, child care centres, excavation, schools and site preparation, servicing for institutional, commercial, industrial and residential development.
4. Automatic and self-serve car wash businesses.
5. Auto dealerships -open only by appointment.
6. Marinas can commence preparations for the recreational season by maintaining and servicing boats and other watercraft.
When asked about the businesses that will open next, Chief Medical Officer of Health in Ontario, Dr. David Williams, replied that the decision solely lies with the government.
He said: “It depends on what the government decides.” He added that the process of opening businesses again is a “big job.”
Recently, the government in partnership with Ontario’s health and safety association laid out over 60 sector-specific guidelines which aim to guide businesses when they reopen to guarantee the safety of their workers, customers and the public.
