Belgian coach, Luc Eymael has been fired by his club in Tanzania after hurling racist comments during a news conference recently where he said the supporters of his club are monkeys and barking dogs.
The normadic coach who has coached in 10 African countries over the last ten years was sacked by Yanga Football Club for his comments after his club drew at Mtibwa Sugar.
He said jeers from the terraces when he made tactical changes showed that the fans were ignorant.
He said: “They are completely stupid in this country. They can only shout. They are like monkeys or dogs who are only barking. They can only do that. They don’t know anything.”
The club waited till after the last game of the season on before firing the 60-year-old coach.
While announcing Eymael’s sack, the club said: “Yanga management has been saddened by inhumane and racist remarks made by coach Luc Eymael and reported by several media outlets as well as social media.
“Owing to those unsporting remarks, Yanga management has decided to fire Luc Eymael effective today, Monday, July 27 and will ensure he leaves the country as soon as possible.”
Eymael has however denied his comments were targeted at the fans of the club.
While talking to BBC Africa, Eymael said: “I was provoked by a fan from our rivals Simba and I apologised on Friday for my comments.”
The Tanzania Football Federation said it would take disciplinary action against Eymael and report him to FIFA.
