Starbucks has said it would be closing no fewer than 200 out of its 1,400 stores in Canada within the next two years.
The Seattle-based company also revealed that some of the Canadian stores earmarked for closure will be strategically “repositioned.”
Starbucks has been experimenting with outlets that are pick-up only coffee shops as these outlets target customers that have placed an order in advance on the Starbuck’s app and either pick up the order or have the order delivered.
Starbucks made its plans known in a letter written to shareholders and filed with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday.
The letter pointed out the various changes that Starbucks was introducing to respond to the coronavirus pandemic and growing consumer habits.
The company closed down most of its outlets during the pandemic but 96 percent of its locations worldwide are now open including 88 percent of its locations in Canada.
The company is currently anticipating what its business will look like in the long run and is planning to open more new locations in different parts of the world.
