The good people of Ede Town, Osun State were in shock and awe as they witnessed the unprecedented donation of multi-billion Naira medical equipment to Ede Community by SAGA Foundation, Canada.
The event took place recently at Springfield Development Foundation, Hospital Road, Ede, Osun State and was attended by the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke; Timi of Ede Land, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM); Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, Osun state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry; Barr. Jola Akintola, Osun State Commissioner for Health; Dr Kingsley Akinroye, Chairman, Osun State Hospitals Management Board and dignitaries from Ede, Osun State, Nigeria, United States of America, United Kingdom and Canada.
In a heartfelt and impassioned speech, Shola Agboola, the esteemed founder of SAGA Foundation, described Governor Adeleke as the pillar of support for SAGA Foundation as he is the first and only Nigerian Governor to collaborate with the Foundation. He said SAGA Foundation has touched most of the states in Nigeria but Governor Adeleke is the only Nigerian governor who has supported SAGA. He thanked Ooni of Ife, Timi of Ede, and other dignitaries for their presence. He also thanked the Canadian government, the Government of Manitoba and International Hope Canada for the provision, coordination and arrangement of the equipment and supplies.
He recounted the ten-year journey of relentless humanitarian efforts that culminated in this generous contribution and noted that the deplorable state of the healthcare system he witnessed as a young boy growing up in Nigeria, which led to the death of his father, motivated him to develop a healthcare support initiative with facilitated the donation of the multi-billion naira medical equipment and supplies to Ede community and extended an invitation to anyone who wishes to partner with the Foundation in advancing this humanitarian endeavour.
In her speech, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, ably represented by Eng. Dr. Yakubu Sule Bassi, the Secretary of NiDCOM, thanked Shola Agboola and the entire SAGA team for their great work.
The event marked the second impactful project in Osun State within a year, following a similar initiative launched earlier in Ila-Orangun.
