(NC) Many of us experience issues with the Canada Revenue Agency’s service. With an agency as large and far-reaching as the CRA, encountering difficulties is inevitable.
You may have experienced such issues yourself, but are you aware of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman?
This resource may be useful to you if, for example, the CRA is repeatedly asking for documents you’ve already provided, or it has not clearly explained the reasoning behind a decision to deny your application for certain benefits. You can also turn there for help with unprofessional communication from an employee, or to file a service complaint for an explanation about delays in the processing of your return.
Before filing a complaint with the Ombudsman’s Office, your first step is to go through the CRA’s service complaint process. If there are compelling circumstances, such as financial hardship, you can contact the ombudsman first.
The ombudsman also examines systemic service issues within the CRA and makes recommendations to the Minister of National Revenue for improvements.
