It has been confirmed by the Premier League that they have granted the wishes of the players to have their names replaced by Black Lives Matters on the back of their jerseys when the season restarts next week.
The Premier League also confirmed that aBlack Lives Matter logo will feature on the players jerseys till the end of the season with a badge appreciating the NHS for their effort during COVID-19.
A statement from players of all the 20 clubs issued today read: “We, the Players, stand together with the singular objective of eradicating racial prejudice wherever it exists, to bring about a global society of inclusion, respect, and equal opportunities for All, regardless of their colour or creed.
“This symbol is a sign of unity from all Players, all Staff, all Clubs, all Match Officials and the Premier League #blacklivesmatter #playerstogether.”
The statement added: “The Premier League stands alongside players, clubs, The FA, EFL, PFA, LMA, PGMOL and all those who oppose discrimination in any form.”
Furthermore, the Premier League confirmed that they will offer support to any player that decides to celebrate a goal by taking a knee after scoring.
The Premier League restarts next Wednesday with Aston Villa locking horns with Sheffield United while Manchester City host Arsenal at Etihad Stadium.
