Ontario Introduces Law to Protect Human Trafficking Survivors

As a part of Ontario’s Strategy to finish Human Trafficking, Minister of the standing of ladies, Indira Naidoo-Harris, introduced legislation recently that will if passed, increase protection for survivors and people in danger of human trafficking.
The Anti-Human Trafficking Act, 2017 would produce 2 statutes, bar of and Remedies for Human Trafficking Act, 2017 and Human Trafficking Awareness Day Act, 2017. These statutes, if passed, would:
Allow people to use for restraining orders against human traffickers
Make it easier for survivors of human trafficking to urge compensation from people who trafficked them
Proclaim day of every year as Human Trafficking Awareness Day in Ontario.
In addition to those 2 new acts, the province has created 2 restrictive changes that will facilitate survivors of human trafficking by permitting them to sue people who are guilty of trafficking them for emotional distress and permitting community organizations that support survivors of trafficking to use for grant funding below Ontario’s Civil Remedies Act, 2001.
The Strategy to finish Human Trafficking, launched in June 2016, aims to extend awareness and coordination, enhance justice sector initiatives and improve survivors’ access to services. It conjointly reflects the varied views of survivors, front-line community agencies, public safety representatives, and native organizations.
Supporting survivors and protective those in danger of trafficking could be a a part of the government’s vision to make sure that everybody within the province will sleep in safety — free from the threat, worry or expertise of exploitation and violence.
Human trafficking could be a criminal offense and involves recruiting, transporting, transferring, receiving, holding, concealing or harboring an individual, or workout management, direction or influence over the movements of an individual, for the aim of exploiting them or facilitating their exploitation.
Ontario has become a significant centre for human trafficking in North American country, with sixty five p.c of national human trafficking cases rumored to police originating in Ontario.
