Canadian investors have been admonished to take advantage of the favourable investment opportunities in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by investing in agriculture, tourism, infrastructure development, transportation, healthcare, waste management and the hospitality industry.
Minister of State for FCT, Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, made this admonition when she led a delegation of FCT to the recently concluded inaugural Canada-Nigeria Investment Expo with the theme: “Creating Enduring Partnership” which took place in Ontario Investment Trading Centre, Canada.
The Minister stressed that the participation of the FCT Administration in the investment summit has created more opportunities for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the Federal Capital Territory.
In a recent statement issued to newsmen in Abuja by her Special Adviser on Media, Austine Elemue, Aliyu, the Minister expressed satisfaction that many business groups in Canada have shown willingness to come and invest in Abuja and stressed that the Abuja Investment Company Limited (AICL) and Abuja Infrastructure Investment Centre (AIIC) would be liaising with the Ease of Doing Business unit to facilitate this process for quick implementation.

According to her; “The Expo provided business investors from FCT and other parts of Nigeria with the opportunity to connect with Economic Development Organizations and Global Business leaders from across Canada to facilitate Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Public Private Partnership in Nigeria”.
While giving remarks during the summit, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada, His Excellency, Adeyinka Asekun, outlined the successful efforts made by the Embassy.
Also, the Ambassador told the gathering that efforts are being made to conclude the Bilateral Trade Agreement between Nigeria and Canada to better the volume of trade which was currently below expectations, given the number of Nigerians in Canada and the great opportunities.

After the Expo, the minister met with the Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, and other ministers handling Economic Development, Job creation, Sports, Tourism, and Agriculture.
