Around 130,000 passengers will pass through Mississauga’s Pearson Airport daily this holiday season as people go back to pre-pandemic Christmas travel arrangements.
As such, airport officials and Canada’s transport minister have revealed that the airport is well-positioned to handle the traffic better than it did between January and October.
During a recent interview with insauga.com, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said though staffing issues and other limitations that have stifled Pearson, and other airports for the most part of 2022 have not been completely resolved, the situation has changed for the better.
Also, the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), which operates Pearson, has disclosed that levels of service have recently increased while flight delays, cancelled flights and huge lineups have reduced significantly.

Alghabra said: “I believe Pearson Airport is in a much better position (to handle large numbers of travellers) than it was last summer.”
The transport minister revealed further that the airport has recruited more staff in a bid to better address the increased demand for air travel as COVID-19 restrictions are non-existent.
He said: “Now, that’s not the same as saying that Pearson has no more work to do, because it does. But the travel sector and the federal government also have more work to do.”
