Nigerians have reacted angrily at a Lebanese whose name is Wael Jerro, following his advertisement of a Nigerian woman for sale on Facebook.
Jerro, who lives in Beirut, Lebanon, posted the international passport of the woman, Busari Peace, on ‘Buy and Sell in Lebanon’ Facebook group and captioned the post in Arabic with English translation: “Domestic worker from Nigeria for sale with new legal documents. She’s 30 years old, she’s very active and very clean. Price: $1,000.”
The posted international passport was issued in May 2018 and from the details on the passport, Peace hails from Ibadan, Oyo State.
This has generated a lot of anger among the good people of Nigeria and other well meaning individuals across the world. People have called on the government of Nigeria to save Peace as she might have been a victim of human trafficking.
While confirming the incident, the Chairman of Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the case had been reported to the “concerned authorities” by the Nigerian mission in Lebanon.
She said, “A manhunt is on for the man and an all out search for the young girl. Let’s keep her in our prayers.”
Also, The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) said efforts had been put in place to locate and bring Peace to Nigeria.
NAPTIP said: “We will do everything possible to ensure that she is returned home safely and is reunited with her loved ones.”
