According to reports, an American aid worker that was kidnapped in Niger Republic over six years ago has been released from custody.
Jeffrey Woodke was kidnapped in his Abalak home in Niger in October 2016 by men who laid ambush, killed his guards and forced him into their truck at gunpoint. He was later driven north toward Mali’s border.

A senior administration official briefed reporters recently on Woodke’s release and described the action as what culminated from years of efforts. He however did not reveal what exactly led to him being freed from captivity or his present location.
The official said no ransom was paid and no concession was made to abductors.
