Health Canada has recalled a number of commercial hand sanitizers due to the fact that they contain industrial-grade ethanol.
Health Canada says industrial-grade ethanol can contain impurities and other harmful chemicals, as such, it is not approved for use in hand sanitizers in Canada.
Products that were recalled are Gel 700 Hand Sanitizer, Eltraderm Hand Sanitizer, Walker Emulsions Hand Sanitizer, Contract Packaging Distributions hand sanitizer and Sanilabs Hand Sanitizer.
Why talking further about the dangers of using hand sanitizers that contain industrial-grade ethanol, Health Canada says regular use of these products can lead to dry skin and cause irritation or cracking.
Customers have been advised to stop using the products and take them back to their local pharmacy for disposal.
Hand sanitizers that are recommended for use in Canada will display either a Drug Identification Number (DIN) or Natural Product Number (NPN) on the label of the product.
