The family of a man who was shot dead in front of a Scarborough’s Wexford neighbourhood home late Saturday night has remembered him as a “hard-working” young man who did not get himself in any trouble.
The man was found lying on the ground groaning in pain from the gunshot wound by a citizen who called the Police at around 10:40 pm to the location near Tower Drive and Lawrence Avenue.
Inspector Darren Alldrit revealed that the victim was located in time and was instantly rushed to the hospital through emergency run but was confirmed dead shortly after.
The man’s Family have identified him as Daniel Boima.
While talking about Daniel, his father, Mohammed Boima said: “Daniel was a good boy. He has never been in trouble and never had anything from school. He is a hard-working guy, respectful, respectful of elders, never hurt anybody.”
Mohammed said he last talked to Daniel on Saturday evening before Daniel left the home they shared for the night.
He made it known that his son was working at a factory in the area and was saving money for college.
He said: “Maybe he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, I don’t know.” He added that his son can not drive and was probably just taking a walk through the neighbourhood.
Alldrit said that the suspected killers of Daniel are believed to have ran away from the scene in a vehicle that is light-coloured after the shooting and they were last seen northbound on Tower Drive.
While talking to reporters, Alldrit said: “We have quite a large crime scene here. We have numerous officers that are on scene canvassing for any witnesses and we brought in our canine unit who did an extensive search of the area for any suspects and for any other evidence that might have been discarded. We are appealing to the public at this time. Anybody who witnessed this or who has any information please come forward and provide that information to the homicide squad or 41 Division.”
Alldrit said the witnesses reported that they heard two gunshots before Boima was found on the ground.
The police’s specialized guns and gangs task force in Toronto has been asked to assist with the investigation.
