President of Guinea, Alpha Condé has asked all Muslims the in the country to hold a 24-hour prayer for Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday.
Condé announced this while delivering a speech to the country’s Council of Ministers during a meeting on Thursday.
At the meeting, he expressed his concern for the sick Nigerian President and afterward declared that Friday be dedicated to prayers for Buhari’s health recovery.
Close to 85% of the Guinean population are Muslims; 8% are Christians; whereas 7% are traditionalists.
Ever since may 7, 2017, 2 months after Buhari returned from a 49-day London medical trip, he was back again to the country for medical treatment.
His long absence from office had erupted calls for his health status to be made public, whereas many Nigerians had requested for his resignation.
A suit was filed before the Federal high court in Abuja requesting an order, compelling the Federal council to declare the indisposed President as unfit to continue to hold office and another suit mandating the National Assembly to constitute a medical panel to verify the President’s health fitness.
The suit, FHC/ABJ/CS/671/2017, was filed on Thursday by the kingdom Human Rights Foundation International, and incorporated trustees of a civil society group,
In Feb 2017, Muslims in major state capitals and cities within the North had also held marathon prayers for the fast recovery of President Buhari.
The special prayer sessions were held at various Eid prayer grounds in Nasarawa, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina and Kwara states.
At the moment, Friday has be put aside to offer the ”prayers for Buhari”.
