The federal government has created a task force to help citizens of Canada and permanent residents get back home from Lebanon after the recent explosion in Beirut.
According to the government, the task force will aid the delivery of consular services to Canadians in Lebanon in a bid to ensure that issues that border on immigration can be quickly addressed.
The task force will also permit Lebanese citizens in Canada to extend their stay in Canada if they are not able to go home as a result of the deadly explosion.
The government also said it would waive the cost of documents related to visitors’ status renewal in Canada As well as Canadians and permanent residents in Lebanon who want to come back to Canada.
The government is introducing these measures after recent announcement of $30 million in humanitarian and development aid for the good people of Lebanon.
The explosions which were blamed on negligent storage of of ammonium nitrate tonnes, killed over 200 people and injured thousands of people in Beirut.
