The Bloc Québécois has moved to stop the daily reading of prayer in the House of Commons and substitute it with a moment of reflection.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau does not support the idea, saying the matter is not a priority for his government or Canadians.

Bloc MP Martin Champoux reveals his party will soon table a motion in Parliament to end the daily prayer, which starts with “Almighty God” and ends with “Amen.”
The motion says that the House should honour the beliefs and non-beliefs of Parliamentarians as well as the public.
However, Trudeau said the people he talked with in his Montreal riding talked about the rising cost of living and the war in Ukraine but did not talk about the daily prayer in the House.

The Conservatives did not comment instantly while the NDP says they will vote in support of the Bloc motion.
The reading of prayer at the start of every day’s sitting has been part of the activities of the House of Commons since 1877 but only became a standing order in 1927.
