The super talented R&B singer, Betty Wright, who made the phrase, “No pain, no gain,” popular has died. She died at the age of 66.
The cause of her death was not disclosed when her niece confirmed the death but few days before her death, Chaka Khan tweeted: “Calling all my #PrayWarriors | My beloved sister, Betty Wright @MsBettyWright, is now in need of all your prays. “Que Sera, Sera | Whatever Will Be, Will Be”

Betty, an unsung heroine, was honoured on TV One’s Unsung recently. Betty did many songs and one of them is her hit song, “Clean Up Woman” that she released in 1971. The song was released when Betty was 18 years and it happens to be her greatest hit song. Betty’s other hits are “Where is the Love”, Shoorah Shoorah”, “Let me be your Lovermaker” and “Tonight is the Night.”
Betty launched her own record label in the 1980s. She marked the unprecedented launch by recording “No Pain, No Gain.” She later recorded “Mother Wit” which went gold.
Betty lost Patrick, her 21-year-old sonwas shot and murdered in 2005. Apart from Patrick, Betty had 4 other children.
