Alyson Walker has decided to step down from her position as General Secretary at the Canada Soccer Association, a move that comes on the day she was scheduled to assume the role. Walker’s appointment had been announced on December 22.
In a statement released by the federation, Walker cited personal reasons for her decision, expressing the need to take some time away. The governing body was informed of her choice on Saturday. Walker, who previously served as the Chief Commercial Officer at OverActive Media, a Toronto-based esports organization, and had prior roles at Bell Media and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.
Federation President Charmaine Crooks extended support to Walker, acknowledging an unforeseen personal matter that has led to her decision. Crooks emphasized the federation’s understanding and deep respect for Walker’s request for privacy. Korn Ferry, the recruitment firm responsible for the initial hiring process, is now resuming its search for a new General Secretary.
During this transition period, board member Kelly Brown will lead a team that includes Chief Operating Officer Mathieu Chamberland, Chief Financial Officer Sean Heffernan, and Chief Communications and Content Officer Paulo Senra.
The role of interim General Secretary had previously been held by former Canada captain Jason deVos after Earl Cochrane’s departure in April. However, deVos later left to join the coaching staff of Toronto coach John Herdman, who had taken over as the men’s national team coach. The interim men’s coach position has been occupied by Mauro Biello since Herdman’s resignation in August.
