US consulate launches centres in Enugu and Benin City

The United States Consulate General has revealed that it has launched two new centres in Enugu and Benin City.

According to the Consulate General, the effort was aimed at engaging additional audience from Nigeria.

A recent statement by the US Consulate Public Affairs Officer, Stephen Ibelli, revealed that the University of Nigeria, Enugu campus, and the Glass House, Airport Road, Benin City will host the new two centres.

Ibelli noted that workers at the new centres would host programmes that will promote US higher education and highlight some aspects of American culture via movie screenings, digital video conferences, book discussion clubs, speaker events and exhibitions.

Ibelli made it known that the Enugu and Benin windows on America represented a partnership between the US Mission, the University of Nigeria and the Igbinedion University.

He said: “We are delighted that these two new windows on America will offer even more opportunities to the youth in Enugu, Benin City, and beyond to discover the US as they prepare for their futures.

“We hope that this will be a fun and energetic programming space where our two cultures and countries can blend together, and where we will welcome youths and people from underserved communities to learn more about the United States.”

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Prof. Charles Igwe, thanked the United States Mission for the partnership.

In the same vein, the Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu-Ezemonye, expressed confidence that the development would aid cross-cultural collaboration between young Nigerians and their United States counterparts.
