Legendary Canadian director to shoot film in Greece

There is high buzz in Greece over the news that legendary Canadian film director, David Cronenberg, has revealed that his next film would be shot in Greece  this summer.

In spite of hinting at retirement, the septugenerian movie director plans to shoot a horror film titled “Crimes of the Future.” Multiple sources have revealed that his longtime friend and collaborator, Viggo Mortensen is attached to the film.

While speaking GQ Magazine, Mortensen disclosed that he was working on a new movie with Cronenberg, but he did not give details about the project.

Mortensen said: “It’s something he wrote a long time ago, and he never got it made. Now he’s refined it, and he wants to shoot it.

“Hopefully, it’ll be this summer we’ll be filming. I would say, without giving the story away, he’s going maybe a little bit back to his origins.”

Cronenberg and Mortensen have been friends for years and have collaborated in three previous films: “A History of Violence,” “Eastern Promises,” and “A Dangerous Method.”

While talking further about the upcoming work, Mortensen said: “It’s almost like a strange film noir story. It’s disturbing and it’s good, I think. But since his origins, he’s obviously developed in terms of technique and self-assurance as a director.”

Cronenberg is famous for starting the body-horror sub-genre in the 1980s with films like Scanners (1981) and Videodrome (1983). Meanwhile, he has moved away from horror since he produced films like ‘A History Of Violence, (2005)’ and ‘Eastern Promises, (2007).’

The announcement has generated a lot of buzz in Greece, a country that is fast becoming a regional powerhouse of film production.
