The Government of Ontario has declined Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s offer to deploy the Canadian Red Cross to the province to help with the third wave of COVID-19.
Recently, Justin Trudeau announced new measures intended to supprt Ontario as virus cases increase across the province.
Trudeau disclosed the Canadian Red Cross would be deployed in a bid to assist Ontario’s mobile vaccination teams, and many long-term care homes but Premier Doug Ford has rejected the federal government’s support.
While talking to Daily Hive, Ivana Yelich, the Director of Media Relations for the Premier said: “While we appreciate the prime minister’s offer, unless it is matched with an increase in supply, we do not need the Red Cross at this time for the administration of vaccines in Ontario.
“We do not have a capacity issue, we have a supply issue.”
Ontario has surpassed its record for the highest daily COVID-19 confirmed cases on three different occasions recently, and numbers have been in the region of 4,000 over the last seven days.
