The Federal Government has debunked reports that Republic of Benin is aiming to become the 37th state in Nigeria. Reports that the country aims to become a state in Nigeria were trending online recently.
In a recently released statement, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesperson, Ferdinard Nwoye, debunked the report.
While debunking the report, Nwoye said Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, recently had a press briefing with his ounterpart from Benin republic and during the press briefing, Onyeama revealed that the President of Benin has requested that the bilateral relations between the two countries should be as though Benin Republic was Nigeria’s 37th state.
