The President of United States, Joe Biden has appointed Nigerian-born Enoh Titilayo Ebong as Acting Director of the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).
Ebong worked in different capacities as USTDA’s General Counsel, Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer between 2004 and 2019.
She later took appointment as the Head of Strategic Partnerships at the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream.
By virtue of her appointment, she will lead USTDA in liaising with United States’ private sector in a bid to evolve sustainable infrastructure and foster economic growth in developing economies.
During her swearing-in, she disclosed that the agency’s mission aligns with Biden’s vision of empowering the economy of United States.
She said: “It is an honor to return to USTDA. The opportunity to lead the Agency comes at a critical moment when the world is turning to the United States for leadership on clean energy and climate-smart infrastructure, as well as safe and secure ICT solutions.”
“The Agency is one of the most effective, targeted and proven tools within the U.S. government. I’ve long believed in USTDA’s mission and program, which are fully aligned with the President’s vision of strengthening our economy and addressing climate as an essential component of American foreign policy and national security.”
Ebong was raised in Lagos. Her father, Ime James Ebong, happened to be a Nigerian civil servant who served in the capacity of Permanent Secretary.
After she was called to bar, she practised at the Boston office of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris and Popeo, P.C., and represented public and private Organisations in financing transactions, public offerings, mergers and acquisitions.
She bagged juris doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School, a Master of Arts degree in communication from University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication, and Master of Arts in History from Scotland’s University of Edinburgh.
