Premier League clubs interested in signing Odion Ighalo

Premier League clubs interested in signing Odion Ighalo

The representative of Odion Ighalo has revealed that some clubs in the Premier League, Europe, and Middle East have made enquiries about signing the former Super Eagles striker.

Ighalo joined Manchester United on transfer Deadline Day in January 2020 on six-month loan deal from Chinese Super League side, Shanghai Shenhua.

Upon joining Manchester United, Ighalo hit the ground running as he scored five goals in five starts with the club. This earned him a contract extension at United.

The stricker has found it difficult to get game time this season as he has only featured in four games in all competitions for Manchester United.

His loan spell will expire at the end of the month and he has made it known he was open to playing in Major League Soccer in the United States. Also, while talking to BBC Sport Africa, his representative revealed that the forward is being courted by clubs in England, Europe and Middle East.

His representative said: “I can confirm that some Premier League clubs, two teams outside of England and some clubs in the Middle East have made formal enquiries.

“Of course, he said [in an interview] that the MLS could be interesting, but that is just an option outside of the strong interest received so far.

“For now he’s still a Man United player on loan from China where he still has a contract. He could stay in England where his family is based or try something new because he has many options to mull over.

“Any potential move after Manchester United definitely involves Shanghai Shenhua. There’s a slight sense of disappointment about the current season, but Ighalo remains grateful for the opportunity to have played for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“He wanted to end his time at United on a high by playing more for his boyhood club but he is grateful to the manager and proud of himself.”
