It has been revealed that Twitter will hand over control of the US President’s official account to Joe Biden on January 20 irrespective of whether Donald Trump leaves White House or not.
President Donald Trump has not conceded defeat in the 2020 president election and has alleged high-level voter fraud after it was announced that Biden won the election but according to Twitter, the POTUS account will be handed over to Biden.
While talking to Politico about this development, the spokesman of Twitter, Nick Pacilio said: “Twitter is actively preparing to support the transition of White House institutional Twitter accounts on January 20th, 2021.”
This decision will also affect @whitehouse, @VP, @FLOTUS and a host of other official accounts associated with the presidency.
Though Trump has tweeted 10,900 times since he took over the POTUS account in January 2017, all his tweets will be archived and an account with zero tweet will be passed to Biden on January 20.
Twitter also confirmed that its staff would meet with delegates from the Biden-Harris transition team in the coming weeks to review how the new administration wants to use its government-related accounts.
@POTUS currently has 32.8million followers, while @realDonaldTrump, which was set up in 2009, currently has 88.9million followers.
