Some police officers in Delta State have disclosed that they were paid N200 as Covid-19 allowance during the pandemic.
The police officers who spoke under anonymity condition told Vanguard Newspaper that the paltry allowance was paid to every police personnel who embarked on different policing services during the COVID-19 lockdown in Delta State.
One of the officers said the state headquarters asked them to submit their salary accounts details so the payments to be made directly into their accounts but later, they were called individually by the Divisional Administrative Officers and were given N200 as COVID-19 allowance.
Investigations revealed that the amount was paid across board regardless of ranks as Divisional Police Officers (DPO) also received the same amount.
A senior officer of the Delta State Police Command who confirmed the payment said: “The money was paid to the state command as part of allowance to police officers who played active roles during the lockdown. From the command, the money was shared down to the various divisions in the state and every officer who was involved during the Covid-19 lockdown got N200.”
