Facebook has formally shut down a rapidly growing pro-Trump “Stop the Steal,” for facilitating election misinformation in respect of the ongoing vote counts and calling for violence.
The Facebook group, which has had over 350,000 members and almost 7,000 posts in two days, was reported to have organized protests and spread false information that Joe Biden was trying to steal the election.
While talking about the deactivation, Facebook said: “In line with the exceptional measures that we are taking during this period of heightened tension, we have removed the Group ‘Stop the Steal,’ which was creating real-world events.
“The group was organized around the delegitimization of the election process, and we saw worrying calls for violence from some members of the group.”
