Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen and his teammates in Napoli failed to show up for their Serie A match against Juventus.
The game was scheduled to take place in Turin at 7:45p.m Nigerian time with Juve players at the stadium. The match however could not hold due to insufficient players.
It was gathered that Napoli players were placed in isolation after recording two positive coronavirus tests recently, as such, health authority in Naples ordered the team not to travel.
Meanwhile, Serie A refused to call the game off and going by Serie A’s rules, Juve would be awarded a 3-0 win.
The league has said that Naples Health Authority (ASL) failed to take into account the agreed health protocol between Italy’s health ministry, sports ministry and the football authorities.
The agreement states that, if players test positive, other members of the squad can still train and play if they are tested again and return negative results.
“The protocol lays down certain rules that cannot be deviated from, which allow league matches to be played even in the event of a positive result, deploying players who have tested negative,” it said.
Serie A has ruling states that matches should go ahead if each team has at least 13 players available and that teams who cannot play would suffer a forfeit.
Meanwhile, teams have the right to request for a postponement without forfeiting if 10 players test positive within one week.
