The Federal Government has lifted the ban placed on Emirates Airlines from flying in and out of Nigeria. The ban reversal came after the United Arab Emirates UAE agreed to commence issuing of visas to Nigerians.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, disclosed the decision to lift the ban on the airline through his official Twitter handle recently.
While announcing the decision the Honourable Minister tweeted: “UAE has written to state that they agree to issue visas to Nigerians, consequently decision has been reached to allow Emirates to fly into Nigeria. Commencement of the Visa issuance is condition precedent. Please bear with this unusual situation. Many thanks.”
The Minister announced on September 18 that the airline had been added to the number of airlines banned from flying into Nigeria. The Minister said at that time that it was important for Nigeria to enforce the principle of reciprocity to every country that had prohibited flights from Nigeria.
