A kindergarten teacher who fed 25 children with poisonous porridge and killed one child after quarrelling with a rival member of staff has been sentenced to death by a central China court.
In its ruling, the Jiaozuo Intermediate People’s Court in Henan province labeled killer Wang Yun’s intentions as “despicable” and “vicious.”
Also, the ruling said: “She should be punished severely in accordance with the law.”
The court was informed that in the build-up to the poisoning, Wang had an altercation with another teacher at the Jiaozuo kindergarten over the best way to manage the students.
Nitrite was added to the porridge supplied by the school by Wang with the intention of killing the other teacher’s students. Wang bought the nitrite online.
The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention described nitrite as a toxic and a likely carcinogen used in fertilizers, food preservation and even munitions and explosives.
Previously, Wang had been caught while trying to poison her husband, Feng, after a heated argument.
On that fateful day, Wang added nitrite into a glass used by Feng and he sustained minor injuries as a result of Wang’s action.
While talking to Global Times of China about the ugly incident, one parent said at the time of the 2019 kindergarten poisoning, he was called by the kindergarten and he was informed that his child had vomited and fainted.
His child was unconscious when he arrived the kindergarten.
The man said: “The vomit was all over (their) pants. There were other children who were also throwing up and they looked pale.”
