Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has suspended its proposed nationwide strike that was scheduled to start on Monday, September 28, in protest over the hike in the price of fuel and electricity tariff.
The strike was suspended after a consensus was reached with the Federal Government in the early hours of Monday during a meeting between both parties.
During the meering which spanned till 2.am. the government agreed to suspend the electricity tariff for two weeks while a committee which comprises labour and government representatives will advise further.
After the meeting ended, the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Mr Festus Keyamo announced via his Tweeter account that the strike has been suspended.
He tweeted: “FG & LABOUR reach agreement at 2:53am. Deregulation to stay as Govt rolls out palliatives for labour (details in 2 weeks); Electricity tariffs suspended by Govt for 2 weeks with a joint Committee headed by @fkeyamo to examine the justification for the new policy. Strike suspended.”
