Menhaz Zaman, has pleaded guilty to murdering four of his family members in Markham, Ontario last year.
His lawyer said he pleaded guilty to three-count charge of first-degree murder and one of second-degree murder recently.
Police discovered the bodies of Zaman’s father Moniruz Zaman, his mother Momotaz Begum, his grandmother and his sister in their home in July 2019.
Menhaz Zaman, who is from Markham was apprehended at the scene and was charged with four counts of first-degree murder the next day.
After he killed his family members, Zaman sent his friends a message on the video game chat, Discord. The message read: “I just slaughtered my entire family and will most likely spend my life in jail if I manage to survive.”
“Do you want the pics?”
He forwarded his fellow gamers images of dead bodies sprawled on the floor of his home with blood pouring from their necks.
Zaman told his friends he had been plotting the killings for not less than three years. He had surreptitiously quit a mechanical engineering course he was studying at a community college but his family members felt he was still enrolled in university.
Also, he had left his Muslim faith and turned into an atheist.
In the message sent to his friends, he added: “I did this because I dont want my parents to feel the shame of having a son like me.”
Zaman’s lawyer said he would most likely be sentenced month.
