While addressing Canadians recently, Justin Trudeau said the country is “at a crossroads” as far as COVID-19 is concerned, as such, a steady course of action is needed to ensure the country won’t be worse hit by the second wave.
In his address, Trudeau said: “The numbers are clear. Back on March 13, when we went into lockdown, there were 47 new cases of COVID-19. Yesterday alone, we had well over 1,000. We’re on the brink of a fall that could be much worse than the spring.”
“I know this isn’t the news that any of us wanted to hear. It’s all too likely that we won’t be gathering for Thanksgiving, but we still have a shot at Christmas.”
The Prime Minister made it known that the country is working tirelessly to make sure that personal protective equipment, therapeutic drugs and a potential vaccine would be adequately supplied and urged Canadians to keep wearing masks, take flu vaccinations and download Canada’s COVID Alert tracing app.
Trudeau said Canadians would get financial aid during the pandemic and pledged to support “all those who need it” till at least next summer. He rubbished concerns over spending and said “doing less would end up costing far more.”
Also, the Prime Minister said that Canada “must keep making progress on reconciliation with indigenous people and on fighting systemic racism,” adding that “diversity is not just our strength, it’s our competitive edge.”
