Nigerian-American basketballer, Michael Ojo has died after he suffered heart attack during training in Belgrade, Serbia.
According to report, the 27-year-old who had previously played for Red Star Belgrade was having an individual training at Partizan’s stadium recently when he collapsed.
Local media revealed he was immediately rushed to the hospital from Partizan’s stadium but he showed no sign of life and was later confirmed dead.
While reacting to Ojo’s death, Red Star’s spokesperson, Igor Vujicin said: “We are deeply saddened by the news.”
Ojo played for Florida State University in the United States before he started his professional career in Belgrade, Serbia with FMP for one year. From FMP, he played two seasons for Crvena Zvezda.
He won the 2018 ABA SuperCup, the ABA League and the Serbian League in 2019 but he was a free agent this summer.
While mouring the death of the former playerl Red Star Belgrade said: “The sudden and shocking death of Michael Ojo has deeply affected everyone — players, coaches and the management of a club that accepted him from the first day, and that he considered his own.”
