India has blocked 47 additional Chinese apps weeks after banning TikTok and 58 other apps over national security and privacy fears.
The ban was recently announced by an Indian information ministry official.
While talking to AFP, the official said: “We have banned 47 mobile apps from China in this ongoing exercise which highlights the government’s seriousness about data privacy and security.
“The order was issued on Friday. Most of these 47 apps are banned for the same reasons as the earlier 59, and many were lite versions or variants of the earlier banned applications.”
Chinese apps that were included in the latest ban are Tiktok Lite, Helo Lite, SHAREit Lite, BIGO LIVE Lite, VFY and so on.
No official statement has been issued by the government in respect of the ban but the ban has been widely reported across major Indian mainstream media.
This latest move came days after a clash at Himalayan border claimed the lives of 20 Indian troops and recorded unknown number of Chinese casualties.
Local media disclosed that 275 other Chinese apps could be blocked over similar issues.
