Justice E.A Obile of a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has prohibited the Executive Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, from contesting the governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which will hold on June 25, 2020.
The Justice gave the order in a legal suit filed by another PDP governorship aspirant, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama. Omoregie insisted that Obaseki did not buy PDP form during the stipulated window and did not undergo screening within the time-table frame.
The Court’s hearing on the suit has been fixed for June 24, 2020. Also, the Court has also permitted speedy hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction.
The suit’s defendants are Prince Uche Secondus, Emmanuel Ogidi, Hon. Kingsley Chinda and Chief Derekeme Boyleyefa. Others are Senator James Manager and Hon. Barrister Ajibola Muraina, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Obaseki defected to PDP on June 19, 2020 following his resignation from APC on June 16 with the aim of becoming PDP’s flagbearer in the upcoming Edo state gubernatorial election.
