The Federal Government has demanded immediate action from Ghana over the attack on Nigerian High Commission in Ghana.
After claims by a Ghanian businessman that he owned the land where the building was built, some gunmen invaded the High Commission and destroyed some sections of its building which is currently under construction.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama has condemned the attack and requested that the perpetrators of the attack be brought to book immediately.
The Minister said the Federal Government was engaging with the Ghanaian authorities over the attack.
In a statement posted on his Twitter page, the Minister said: “We strongly condemn two outrageous criminal attacks in Accra, Ghana, on a residential building in our diplomatic premises by unknown persons in which a bulldozer was used to demolish the building.
“We are engaging the Ghanaian government and demand urgent action to find the perpetrators and provide adequate protection for Nigerians and their property in Ghana.”
The attack happened five months after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs debunked reports that the Nigerian Commission in Ghana in Accra had been evicted.
The Minister’s spokesman, Ferdinand Nwonye, had revealed in a statement that there was no “diplomatic row between Nigeria and the Republic of Ghana”.
Nwonye disclosed that though the lease of the property which is situated at No.10 Barnes Road, Accra, had expired, the High Commission was exercising the option of renewing the lease agreement with Ghanian authorities.
