The Executive Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki has officially joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Governor joined the PDP days after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Obaseki, who was disqualified from recontesting election by the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) on the grounds of possessing “defective qualifications” declared he his now a bona fide PDP member. He made the declaration at PDP’s state secretariat in Benin.
Also, the Executive Governor took to his official Twitter page to announce the development. While announcing the development on his Twitter handle, he wrote: “I have officially joined the @OfficialPDPNig to advance my ambition to seek re-election as Governor of Edo State.

“I, as always, remain committed to engendering good governance and sustainable development of our dear state.”
The PDP has also confirmed the development. A tweet posted on the official Twitter handle of the PDP read: “Breaking News! The governor of Edo State, H. E. @GovernorObaseki has defected to our great Party, the @OfficialPDPNig. The declaration was made this afternoon at the state Secretariat of our party in Benin city, Edo State. Power to the people. #EdoIsPDP.”

Shortly after the PDP announced Obaseki’s defection, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and PDP’s Presidential flagbearer during the 2019 Presidential election congratulated Obaseki on his Twitter page.

While congratulating the Governor, Atiku wrote: “Congratulations, @GovernorObaseki on joining our party, @OfficialPDPNig—the truly people’s party. I am confident that the people of Edo State will be the better for it. You are indeed coming aboard a repositioned PDP that promotes good governance for the benefit of Nigerians. -AA”
