The International Police (INTERPOL) Nigeria has confirmed that Instagram celebrity, Raymond Igbalode a.k.a. Hushpuppi has been arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
While confirming Hushpuppi’s arrest, Commissioner of Police (CP) of INTERPOL in Nigeria, Garba Umar, said plans are being put in place to extradite him to Nigeria.
He said: “It is true that Hushpuppi was arrested by the INTERPOL. We are currently working on bringing him to Nigeria to face charges of fraud. Some of the offences were committed here in Nigeria and he has to answer for them. He is not alone in it; there are accomplices in the country who we are currently on their trail.”
Hushpuppi, Efe and Woodberry were arrested on June 10 on the allegations of hacking into the unemployed database of United States and impersonating citizens that are qualified for unemployment funds.
According to information received, Huspuppi and his associates in Dubai, Nigeria and other countries allegedly defrauded the United States government of more than $100 million budgeted for Americans in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
They were nabbed after weeks of investigation by the US Secret Service after an alarm about a crime ring of suspected Nigerians breaking into personal information of citizens and using false claims of unemployment to move hundreds of millions of dollars set aside for helping jobless Americans.
