Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has signed a new two-year contract offered him by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The agreement was confirmed by one member of Rohr’s backroom staff. While confirming the agreement, the member spoke on the condition of anonymity and said the draft that was sent to Rohr was agreed on and the NFF would forward the contract document to Rohr to sign latest next week.
He said: “He (Rohr) has accepted the new terms and it’s just a matter of days before the deal is sealed. He loves Nigeria and he is excited to coach the Eagles again.”
Rohr, whose contract with the NFF expires in June, had been in contract renewal talks with the federation since the beginning of the year.
The President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick had outlined some of the conditions given to Rohr by the federation before renewing his contract. Part of the conditions states that he must reside in Nigeria and watch the Nigeria Professional Football League matches to discover home-based talents. Also, he will be paid in Naira.
The 66-year-old became the coach of Super Eagles in August 2016, before renewing his contract for two years in 2018, after Super Eagle’s qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Super Eagles crashed out at the group stage of the 2018 World Cup after losing to Croatia and Argentina despite wining their match against Iceland.
One year later, Rohr led the Super Eagles to Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where they won bronze.
