The government of Ontario has said that it would provide financial support for child-care providers who are experiencing difficulty in paying the bills during the COVID-19 lockdown.
According to the Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce, the government will foot fixed operating costs and grant waiver to all fees related to renewals, revisions and licensing applications.
Lecce said the support will last for months and the government will consider applications for financial support on a case-by-case basis.
Child-care providers advocates had been clamouring for financial support for shuttered facilities since last month.
Lecce said it is important to ensure that the facilities are not shut permanently so that parents can get back to work at the end of the pandemic.
