Amnesty International: Security Personnel Have Killed19 Nigerians During Lockdown

Amnesty International has revealed that no fewer than 19 Nigerians have been murdered by security operatives since lockdown to curb the spread of Coronavirus pandemic started.

Nigeria’s lockdown started in March in some part of the but became effective in all states in April in others as a task force was formed to ensure compliance.

It is unfortunate that some Nigerians have been killed by security operatives in the course of ensuring compliance.

In Warri, Joseph Pessu was killed by a soldier in Warri early this month while a policewoman was killed by a policeman in Rivers State last week.

Amnesty International estimates the total number of lockdown killings in Nigeria to be 19.

The international body announced the number via its Twitter handle and said: “We have been monitoring human rights violation on lockdown in the fight against #COVID?19: —So far 19 Nigerians have been killed by security personnel: #COVID19NIGERIA.”
