Officers of the Nigerian Police Force and medical practitioners intercepted a car that was conveying a sick man who later died while being examined on Sunday evening.
According to the information gathered, the vehicle was stopped at Osun State’s entry point in Odo Oba, Iwo, as the vehicle tries to gain entrance into Osun State.
The car was reported to be coming from Ibadan and heading to an undisclosed place when it was stopped at a police checkpoint. After the vehicle was stopped, Police officers on duty started series of interrogation.
While the interrogation was going on, one of the passengers started coughing and died.
The chairman of Iwo Local Government, Comrade Raji Kamoru, talked about the incident and said the policemen and health officers at the checkpoint were not satisfied with the explanation given by the passengers of the vehicle.
He said when the passengers were told they could not proceed, a passenger that was sick started coughing and passed on.
The Chairman said: “They stopped the vehicle coming from Ibadan. One of the passengers started coughing and he died.
“The security men asked them some questions and they could not give a satisfactory explanation about where they were going. Immediately we were informed, myself and the DPO had to turn them back.
“In the first instance, when we told them to return to where they were coming from, they hid in the bush. But we found them and escorted them to the boundary and handed them over to policemen at Iyana Offa, Oyo State. They did not tell us where they were coming from and their destination.”
