How to maximize Wi-Fi coverage in your home

(NC) In today’s tech-savvy world, there’s no time for spotty Wi-Fi – especially in your own home. If your connection has ever dropped, or you have noticed a decrease in internet speed, there may be a solution that’s easier than you think.

Keep everyone in your home connected and happy with these tips and tricks:

  1. How old are your devices? Older devices can be taxing on your Wi-Fi. They require more bandwidth and take longer to communicate with your modem, which in turn slows down the whole system. Also, unlike name-brand devices, bargain devices typically use lower-grade Wi-Fi chips that have trouble connecting and staying connected. Consider upgrading your outdated devices and you won’t need to blame the Wi-Fi.
  2. Move your modem. Often when our connection isn’t living up to our expectations, we do an online speed test to diagnose the problem. However, speed tests may not give you the most accurate result if you’re conducting the test in a different room, or on a different floor from where your modem is placed. Consider putting your modem in an open location and as close as possible to the room where you need it most. After all, the most important measure of internet satisfaction in your home is being able to get the speeds you want, wherever you need them.
  3. Get a modem that fits your lifestyle. We all know modems aren’t traditionally the most aesthetically pleasing, but keeping them out in the open is essential for better connectivity. In fact, hiding a modem away in a closet or maintenance room may significantly decrease your household’s coverage. That’s why Shaw’s Internet 300 comes with a new Advanced Wi-Fi modem. It’s powerful enough to handle your connectivity needs now, and it’s future-proofed to give you the multi-gigabit speeds you’ll need as technology advances. Plus, its stylish design means you’ll get superior connectivity while your modem blends in comfortably with your décor.
