In a majestic celebration of culture and community, Gladys Oluwatoyin Atawo was honoured with the esteemed chieftaincy title of Yeye Asoludero of Itire Land recently.
The lavish ceremony was hosted by His Royal Majesty Oba Tajudeen Ishola Odubivi, the Onitire of Itire Land Odunburu II and it took place at the nicely decorated Ansarudeen Primary School, Itire, Lagos.
The conferment of this noble chieftancy title recognizes Atawo’s major contributions and selfless commitment to promoting healthcare and uplifting communities over her prolific career spanning over 33 years in Nigeria and Canada.

Atawo was born in Ebute Meta, Lagos and embarked on her journey to becoming a leading light in the nursing profession by enrolling for diploma at the prestigious School of Nursing, Wusasa, Zaria before earning a bachelor of Science in Nursing at University of Toronto.
She relocated to Canada in 1989 and nailed her reputation as an authority in diverse nursing disciplines which include medical, surgical, psychiatric, obstetrics and public health at top-rated hospitals. Her dexterity and leadership led to her appointment as Manager of Public Health in the Family Health Division at Toronto Public Health.
Besides her illustrious clinical career, she has been pivotal in empowering communities, serving as President of Eko Club Canada and the Nigerian Nurses Association of Canada.
She also co-founded the Afroglobal Television Network which showcases the richness of African culture in Canada.
The conferment of the title Yeye Asoludero, which means “Mother of Progress”, recognizes her lasting impact.
As an exemplary leader and agent of change, she is renowned for her wisdom, vision and ability to inspire future generations.
The grand ceremony was attended by dignitaries from all over Nigeria including community builders, cultural custodians as well as Mrs. Atawo’s family, friends, well-wishers and mentees.
