The councillor representing Ward 9 in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State, Achor Nna has resigned from his position as the leader of the legislative council. Notably, the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, hails from the same ward.
In a letter dated March 7, 2024, addressed to the clerk of the house, Rosemary Brown, Mr. Nna officially tendered his resignation. Within the letter, Mr. Nna expressed his support for Governor Siayi Fubara, widely recognized as a political rival of Mr. Wike.
Nna articulated that his decision to resign stems from his personal conviction to stand for truth amidst the prevailing political dynamics in Rivers State. He cited instances of alleged intimidation, marginalization, coercion, bullying, and arm-twisting by leaders within the Obio/Akpor LGA as contributing factors to his resignation.
Furthermore, Nna emphasized his alignment with progressive ideals aimed at the liberation and development of Rivers State. He clarified that his resignation does not waver his commitment to working in harmony with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for a ‘Renewed Hope.’
The resignation of Mr. Nna signals a shift in political allegiances within Rivers State and underscores the complex dynamics at play within the region’s political landscape.
